flower illustrations

Did you check out my link drop in the last post about the amazing book invitations on Oh So Beautiful Paper? Definitely a must-read. In that post, the bride uses antique flower illustration cards as table numbers! Hello awesome idea! And the cards are beautiful:

I want my own set! I’ve searched the Web and found a cute option:

These alphabet cards are actually from a baby gift site! ABCs and flower illustrations all in one! A win in my book. If you were to use these cards for your tables, you would assign guests to a letter/flower as opposed to a number. After your wedding, you could frame and display as art!

perfect motto for today

My mother is the strongest woman I know. I’ve spent the last 4 days with her, helping her through a particularly hard time in her life. She is a rock star. This quote is so perfect for her right now. I love you mommy.

Chances are if you’re reading this post, you’re a crafter (or wedding DIY-er) of some sort. As I was going through some long-forgotten bookmarks today, I discovered some old favorites I thought I’d share with you!

First up, the Biz Ladies columns on Design Sponge. You’ll find SO many tips for ladies looking to start a business, develop products, market work and generally kick butt. I can’t even pick a favorite. Every single column is bookmark-worthy.

Indie biz owners rejoice! Modish Biz Tips is an oldie but a goodie. It was created by Miss Modish, but it’s no longer active. However, the archives remain! I find the encouraging words posts to be the perfect kick in the pants, turn that frown upside down kind of resource! You should now grab your coffee (or hot cocoa in my case) and sit down with this site.

I stumbled upon Try This At Home while link-hopping one day. Like Modish Biz Tips, it’s no longer active but still remains to inspire and inform fledgling crafty folk like myself. The Building a Business posts are my favorite, but don’t miss the TTAH Craft Suppliers Index! It’s likely a bit outdated but still worth a click!

And, PSA of the day: Go through your bookmarks. I have so many gems that I’ve forgotten all about! Like this one(!): CraftGawker.

thinking of you

This song is stuck in my head because I’m feeling low, and it’s awfully cold.

But on a happier note, yay for classic movies right? Fred Astaire, you charmer you. First dance song, yes?

what’s up?

I have been a busy girl lately! I can’t believe this is the last week of February!! I’ve been working on a lot of different things, including one exciting project that I just can’t leave alone! It would have been done ages ago, but every day, I open the file and change something else. Gah, I can be too much of a perfectionist sometimes! Anywho…here’s a sampling of some of the things going on with me:

We’re putting our house on the market!

Horrible Blackberry photo. I could have made the yellow look beige in PS but the squiggles were way more fun.

And wow, the work that has to be done to do that! We’ve been checking things off for years now, but our basement flooded and we need to finish it (again). The drywall…the sanding…ugh. And that’s just the beginning! Also, I painted my office a boring beige because the realtor thought the golden yellow wouldn’t be appealing to many buyers. My computer and printers and desk have been in the living room/kitchen all weekend while I painted! I’m back up and running now, thankfully, but on a teeny tiny desk so it doesn’t make the room look like a closet.

Random design!

I’ve been helping a friend of a relative who owns a sign shop do a lot of design lately. I’m not sure exactly how it happened, but I’m getting calls at least 3 times a week asking for me to crack open Illustrator and throw together this or that. It’s a nice change of pace, but my InDesign and Google Reader miss me!

Just because!

How cute is this apron set? I ordered it for my niece for Valentine’s Day (she’s almost 2) and I assure you, it’s even cuter in person! Julie of Funny Farm Creations sized the set to a 2T for me, and I nearly died when I unwrapped the tissue paper and saw the sweetest little oven mitts in the world! And the polka dot ruffle…I am the best aunt! It will go great with the play kitchen she got for Christmas.

Just a sneak peek into my world. What’s up with you? How’s your month going?

Did you know you can get the color values of Crayola crayons on the Crayola Wikipedia page? This isn’t highly useful, but it’s pretty cool right?

Isn’t this the best Valentine ever?! It’s from Grace Edmands, an amazing calligrapher who I was lucky enough to be matched with in the Brooklyn Bride card swap. I didn’t even want to open the envelope because it’s so pretty! But, I did and oh my…how sweet is she?! This completely made my day! Thanks Grace!
